MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORIES

The following state-of-the-art labs, furnished with the latest equipment and technology, have been set up to guarantee that students have all they need to fully comprehend and investigate the Mechanical Engineering principles they have learned in class.


BASIC MECHANICAL ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS

Practices of engineering works like fitting, carpentry, foundry, forging, welding, sheet metal work are provided here. Study of mechanical tools, components and their applications: (a) Tools: screw drivers, spanners, Allen keys, cutting pliers etc and accessories (b) bearings, seals, O-rings, circlips, keys etc.

4. Foundry :- preparation of simple sand moulds – moulding sand characteristics, materials, gate, runner, riser, core, chaplets, casting defects - 1.Bench Molding 2. Floor Molding 3. Core making 4. Pattern making

5. Sheet Metal :- Understanding of sheet metal working tools - Making models - 1. Cylindrical shape 2. Conical shape 3. Prismatic shaped job from sheet metal

6. Welding:- Understanding of welding equipments - Making Joints using electric arc welding. bead formation in horizontal, vertical and over head positions


CAD/CAM LAB

This lab aims to train the students in solid modelling, surface modelling, assembly modelling, mechanism design and drafting. Drawing, modelling and analysis class is conducted in CAD lab equipped with 60 number of systems.

FLUID MECHANICS AND HYDRAULIC MACHINERY LAB

It helps students to understand by performing experiments on the basic laws and equations used for analysis of static and dynamic fluids.

6. Determination of metacentric height and radius of gyration of floating bodies.

THERMAL ENGINEERNG LAB

This Lab is intended to impart basic understanding on the working of internal combustion engines. This includes various performance tests on internal combustion engines as well as makes the students familiar with the evaluation of fuel properties such as viscosity, flash and fire points, calorific value etc. which are key to any performance test.

10. Determination volumetric efficiency and Air-fuel ratio of IC engines

11. Cooling curve of IC engines

14. Retardation test on IC engines

15. Morse test on petrol engine

16. Experiment to find flame temperature of premixed flames at different equivalence ratios and temperature of diffusion flames at different fuel flow rates.

17. Analysis of automobile exhaust gas and flue gas using exhaust gas analyser.

18. Performance test on reciprocating compressor

19. Performance test on rotary compressor/blower


PRODUCTION ENGINEERING LAB

This lab gives students relevant exposure in the use of advanced machine tools like shaping machine, slotting machine and milling machines along with conventional machine tools like lathe, griding machines and drilling machine. Together with machine tools lab, it aims at enhancement of practical skills as well as development of awareness about machine upkeep, safety practices etc. This lab gives students relevant exposure to important machining processes that are in use in the industry.


CNC AND AUTOMATION LAB

Lab gives training on CNC lathe machine and thereby can also gain knowledge in CNC part programming.


MEASUREMENTS AND METROLOGY LAB

The lab also aims to educate students on various measuring tools like Vernier calipers, Screw gauge, Slip gauges, Comparators, Bevel Protractor, Governors, Gyroscope, Vibration apparatus etc


HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER LAB

This lab includes the equipments related to various heat transfer processes viz conduction, convection, radiation and mass transfer. These equipments are heat exchangers, refrigeration and air conditioning systems, compressor/blower and their applications in real life problems.
